By decision of the European Commission n. C (2811) of 23 November 2001 was approved the Single Programming Document Target 2 of the Friuli – Venezia Giulia Region for the 2000-2006 period.
The overall objective of the program is to accelerate the growth, employment, conversion and productive innovation of regional areas eligible for Target 2, promoting connection and integration with the most dynamic areas of the same region. The aim is also to contribute, in this context, also to a structural reinforcement of the mountain areas, promoting the completion of the conversion of the transitional support areas.
The community support under Target 2 is addressed mainly to declining rural areas and industrial areas undergoing social-economic change and to those territories dependent on fisheries which are in a crisis situation.
The current document affects 128 municipalities of the Region on a total of 219 in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia, of which all of the Province of Trieste, 13 of Gorizia, 21 of Pordenone and 88 of the Province of Udine.
The population of the area eligible for Target 2 amounts to 278,683 inhabitants – 23% of the total – on a regional total of 1,185,172 inhabitants (1999 data).
The financing obtained from the Park is inserted in Action 3.1.1 “Promotion and protection of environmental, natural, cultural resources”.Azione 3.1.1 “Valorizzazione e tutela delle risorse ambientali, naturali, culturali”
Action 3.1.1 has as its purpose the protection, spread and tourism promotion of the natural heritage, environment and landscape of the area, as well as the diffusion of environmental awareness, knowledge and interpretation of the natural values, also through the creation of exhibitions and educational expositions related to environmental issues.
The Natural Park of the Friulian Dolomites, through these funds completed in 2003, two interventions that perfectly fall within such purposes:
- Setting up completion of the the Visitors Center of Forni di Sopra
- Exhibition setting up the of the Visitors Center of Frisanco

TYPE OF ASSISTANCE
The operation performed at the Visitors Center of Forni di Sopra has involved the second floor of the building, where they were obtained a library and an information desk for the park, and on the third floor a multipurpose hall.
With the completion of the intervention and the development of amenities (electrical, heat and elevator) the second floor can be used effectively for the Park activities. In particular, the second floor houses the multimedia library of the visitors center, a storage room for equipment, an office for the management of the Park activities.
The third floor of the building has been used as a multipurpose room. The room was equipped with a video system / data / projector, internet connection for video conferencing, selective implantation mixer to amplify the various signal sources (CD, DVD, Tape, Mic, PC, etc.), thereby carrying out seminars, video conferences, video projections magneto / optical, slides, PC interface, interactive lessons.
The room is equipped with furniture such as armchairs, table for speakers with armchairs, darken curtains and lighting system.
Timing: the works were finished in 2003 and the premises are fully accessible.
Financing: the total amounts to € 69,262.52, divided as follows: 33% by the Nation, 20% from the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund), the remaining 47% made available by the Park Institution.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
1) PROJECT TITLE: Exhibition setting up the of the Visitors Center of Frisanco
TYPE OF ASSISTANCE
The intervention #2 was intended to give full functionality to the Visitors Center of Frisanco, recovering the original function of the former alpine hut, with references to the dairy activity and the natural environment of the park, supported by a logistics- information point and a multipurpose room.
The procedure has essentially three operational types:
– provision of domestic furniture for an office on the ground floor and for the multipurpose room on the second floor;
– exhibition on dairy activity;
It has been created also a section where they documented the general aspects and the natural features of the Park.
The exhibition on the dairy art begins in the northern part of the hall where there is a large tilted panel with some texts and documents about the dairy of Poffabro (constituent instrument, social booklet etc.) with a narrator who begins the “story.”
Within the dairy room the still existing instruments have been restored (boilers, presses, etc.) together with the reconstruction of the original environment.
Each object has a name written in Italian, Friulian and English with a brief description of use; they describe the different phases of the milk processing for the production of its derivatives. Short videos show the type of activity.
On the first floor there is an exhibition on the dairy activity and mountain pastures in the Park.
Inside the room were installed some information boards with descriptions and pictures about pastures with particular reference to the alpine huts in the Park territory.
Also on the first floor there are illustrative panels dedicated to the natural features of Valcellina and other related to geological, fauna and flora aspects of the entire territory of the Park.
The second floor has been converted into a multipurpose room full of furniture and video projection systems.
Timing: the works were finished in 2003 and the premises are fully accessible.
Financing: the total amount is equal to € 183,470.63, divided as follows: 49% by the Nation, 30% from the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund), the remaining 21% made available by the Park Institution itself.
