VISITORS CENTER
Mostra “Museo Casa Clautana”

Claut’s Visitor Center is located in the town center, inside of a recently renovated two-floor building.

The ground floor includes an info-point, a visitor reception area, and two rooms hosting temporary exhibitions.

The inner space has been dedicated to an exhibition named “Memorie della Grande Guerra in Valcellina” since 2018; it tells the story of the Italian soldiers retreating after the battle of Caporetto. A special atmosphere is created through pictures and voices extracted from the “Diario di Giuseppina”, which has been recovered and edited by the Associazione Museo Casa Clautana, and also some findings coming from the firing position in the Forcella Clautana. It is possible to look at a realistic reconstruction of the Strada degli Alpini, which was walked by the troops to get to Claut from the Val Silisia. The Strada degli Alpini is, as of now, still viable, and it is one of the main components of one of the most interesting historical and excursional itineraries provided by the Parco Naturale delle Dolomiti Friulane.

The first floor is wholly dedicated to the permanent exhibit section of the museum, which together with the historical “Ciasa da fum”, located a couple hundred meters from the museum, makes up the heart of the Museo Casa Clautana.

The Museo Casa Clautana is mainly about how life was in the past, with the woman from Claut as a protagonist, or by extension, from the Val Cellina. The woman is represented tending to housework, fields, barn and stable, and walking "fora pal mont" as a peddler selling wooden tools made by craftsmen during winter. Her figure might be interesting even for those who are completely alienated from the local culture, since the understanding of that part of the past brings about a comparison between then and now, encouraging some thoughts about time, the events, the technological development, the importance of social values; the visitor might be able to see the bigger picture starting from a reality that was poor in possessions but rich in consistency, dignity, and confidence in life choices.

Open days with live working artisans are periodically organized at the Museo, by carefully using the original gear and tools that are to this day preserved.
